Site updates
Oct ‘21: home page life updates + the realization that I haven’t added any book notes since July ‘20 🥺😅
About
📍SG but moving to HK to work in crypto @ baboon.vc;
sometimes Singapore/Jakarta/California,
completing completed my B.A. in Statistics/CS @ Amherst College;
fascinated by tech x business x web3;
the world is so f**king flat and knowledge is readily available from a single search,
Bill Gates: “20 years ago, would you rather have been a B-student in Poughkeepsie or a genius in Shanghai? Twenty years ago you'd rather be a B-student in Poughkeepsie. Today?”
currently using this site as my online commonplace book— perks include: ability to virtue signal, can’t lose it, indexable + searchable
the search functionality needs some work though
What’s on this site
non-fiction book notes (n=73, last updated October 2020);
list of other links (sites/newsletters/etc);
On pause/retired/under construction/etc.
weekly newsletter, ran from July’17-Dec’19, on tech news (compilation);
collection of articles with highlights (last updated December 2019);
a blog? — lol this is never happening
Random stuff
How I read almost any book (and get most textbooks) for free:
Go to libgen (Library Genesis) and search for your book, generally look for epub or mobi (if you use a Kindle like me) format
I read on my iPad using the Kindle app (not Apple’s Books app, which would equally work) but if there’s only a PDF format available, then download the Calibre app (ebook management) and convert it to epub/mobi
Getting it onto the Kindle you can use either the Send to Kindle app or attach it to an email and send it to the registered email for your Kindle device
I love highlighting (active reading) and exporting my highlights (comes out as an HTML file) which I then throw onto a page here
Referral links (LOL):
SoFi (hybrid checking/savings, no fees)
Download the app ($15 each)
Open an account ($25 each)
Open SoFi Trading ($25 in stonks each)
Apply for the Credit Card (I get 6% on your spending for 30D and you get 4%)
Robinhood (stonks)
Open an account (we both get a free stonk that’s on average worth $5)
AMEX (credit card)
Open any card (125k points [usually 75k] for Platinum after $6k in 6m for you, +4 points/$ for me for the next 3 m)
FTX (ex-US crypto trading platform)
Open an account (you get 5% off trading fees, I get a 25% rebate on your trading commission — note if you stake ~$1500 worth of FTT maker fees are 0%)
FTX US (US crypto trading platform)
Open an account (you get 5% off trading fees, I get a 30% rebate on your trading comission — note FTX US has a fraction of the trading pairs available on the international version because of regulation [so VPN overseas and set up the FTX Pro (international)])
